About The Event
~ an evening of music & stories from a haunted valley ~
Lights in the skies over Longdendale. Ghosts in the hills along the valley. Strange creatures slipping through the shadows, and the devil lurking at a hairpin bend in the Woodhead Road.
Tales hewn from the dirt and summoned from the rusting edgelands, set to the loops and bleeps of synth occultists. We have gathered stories of local sightings, and we’ll hear many more before the night is done.
A one-of-a-kind evening of storytelling and music-making, featuring wordsmiths David Hartley & Annie Acre, and the melodies of Rickerly, Vice Vera, & Heaton Norris Light Vessel Automatic.
A seated, 90-minute production, brought to you by re.shape and The Dark Art of Storytelling. Anticipate transcendence, disturbance, restlessness, and disbelief. Expect rhythm, poetry, discord, and demonic tritones.
The devil is at your elbow. What have you seen?

The Performers:
The Devil’s Elbow is a collaboration between three musicians and two writers who are woven together as a seamless whole. The following figures will manifest throughout the evening:
Rickerly: A spectral vision searching for unknown sounds through glitchy ambience and fractured dance. Hear more: https://rickerly.bandcamp.com/
David Hartley: A teller of strange tales about strange things for strange people. Treads the boundaries between storytelling and immersion; between folklore and fragmentation. Read more: https://www.davidhartleywriter.com/
Annie Acre: A teller of strange tales about strange things for strange people. Treads the boundaries between storytelling and immersion; between folklore and fragmentation. Read more: https://www.davidhartleywriter.com/
Vice Vera: Vocalist, guitarist, loop-maker with an alien energy and a fizzing lifeforce. Debut album coming soon. Seek more: https://www.vicevera.com/
Heaton Norris Light Vessel Automatic: Southeast veering southwest 4 or 5, occasionally 6 later. Thundery showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor. Explore further: https://heatonautomatic.bandcamp.com/

Your Contribution:
This is a show about strange encounters and experiences. You will see from the home page that there have been many who have contributed their phenomena, and we’d like to collect up many more before the shows. If you’ve had a strange experience that you can’t quite explain, whether it came from the skies, the shadows, your dreams or elsewhere, we’d love to feature it on this website. It may even work its way into the show.
Simply email us a brief anecdote, and an image if you have one. This isn’t an exercise in judgement, this is merely a collection of curiosities. We’re happy to post anonymously if you’d prefer.
