Light Up - WX (Former Market Hall)

Light Up Wakefield returns this November, transforming the city into a spectacular celebration of light, creativity and nature. From Friday 13 to Saturday 14 November, visitors can explore light installations across Wakefield city centre, from interactive artworks and striking projections to awe inspiring illuminated experiences.

A highlight of this year's programme is Nature's Return, a breathtaking illuminated parade celebrating the return of wildlife to Wakefield's rivers, meadows, moors and gardens. Led by a towering Mother Nature figure, glowing creatures emerge from the darkness, creating a moving tribute to ecological recovery and the beauty of the natural world.

Audiences can also experience Limbic Cinema’s Rewild, an immersive projection that uses live camera technology to place visitors inside a vibrant future ecosystem. Through movement and play, participants help generate butterflies, bees and wildflowers, encouraging iconic species such as wolves, beavers and ospreys to return to the landscape.

Inside Wakefield Exchange (WX), Twist & Shine invites visitors to interact with giant glowing sculptures, while the stunning projection mapped artwork 12 Giant Days brings stories to life through light and animation. Visitors can also discover Continuum, a brand new installation from Illumaphonium featuring an awe inspiring geometric matrix of mirrors.

With free family friendly activities, spectacular artworks and magical moments around every corner, Light Up Wakefield promises an unforgettable weekend that will see the city shine brighter than ever before.
